Project Manager – Architecture

Location: San Francisco Bay Area, CA

Employment Type: Full-Time

Work Arrangement: Hybrid/Onsite

Position Summary

A well-established design organization is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee architectural projects from planning and design through construction. The position will coordinate project teams, manage schedules and budgets, communicate with clients, and help ensure consistent project quality and timely delivery.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage architectural projects across multiple phases, from early planning through construction.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, scopes, budgets, staffing plans, and deliverables.
  • Coordinate communication among clients, architects, designers, consultants, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Guide project teams and provide direction, mentoring, and day-to-day support.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and other project documents for coordination, quality, and completeness.
  • Track project financial performance, including budgets, staffing utilization, invoicing, and scope changes.
  • Identify project challenges and work with the team to develop practical solutions.
  • Participate in client meetings, presentations, design reviews, and construction-related coordination.
  • Maintain organized project records and ensure key milestones and deliverables remain on schedule.
  • Support the development of functional, technically sound, and high-quality design solutions.

Required Experience

  • Eight or more years of professional architectural experience.
  • Experience working in a small- to medium-sized architecture or design environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing technically complex building projects.
  • Background with civic, institutional, commercial, industrial, public-sector, or similarly complex project types.
  • Current architectural licensure with working knowledge of California building requirements.
  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited program.
  • Strong understanding of architectural documentation, project delivery, and construction processes.
  • Working proficiency with Revit, Bluebeam, Deltek, Microsoft Office, and related software.
  • Strong communication, organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Background

  • Experience working with public, institutional, or other highly coordinated clients.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary consultant teams.
  • Exposure to technically demanding facilities or specialized building programs.
  • Experience mentoring architectural staff or leading project teams.
  • Knowledge of sustainable design practices or related professional credentials.
  • Strong client service, presentation, and relationship management skills.
